(...introducing the newest green member of the family)
boy and i watched the movie red this weekend. it was quite entertaining, especially considering i was bone tired from yard working all day (side note: not much feels better than a long, hard day outside in the beautiful sun, followed by a nice relaxing late afternoon movie on a couch with kettle corn and a cute boy). one character, played by oldie but hottie bruce willis, is bored with retired CIA life, and begins growing an avocado from a pit, in a little jar on his kitchen table. yep, my friends, this is what we have to look forward to in about forty years...
i decided, when i made guacamole the next day for dinner for boy and mom, that i would try to do the same. i am in serious spring fever mode, wanting to garden and plant and pull and weed and water and all sorts of stuff, and the idea of having an avocado tree in my backyard just warms my little mexican-food-loving soul. so, i followed ol' brucey's style and cleaned off my avocado pit, stuck a few long sticks in it, and let it float in some water in my favorite jar (complements of b&a jam co). (i also did some quick googling/double-checking about how to truly grow an avocado from a pit, knowing that things don't always work like they do in the movies).
and here she is, readers: lil' avvie...
she's gonna be a cutie when she's all grown up! more pics to come as she grows.
