(...where i give in to the reality of my life)
on monday through thursday mornings, my commute is enviable: i live about 2.5 miles away from work, so it takes me about 7 minutes, and i pass two starbucks on the way. no traffic, ever. go ahead, envy me (miss l, i know you are!)
however, to make up for it, i drive to parker, colorado three times a week, to be a therapist. this drive is about 20 miles, depending on what route i take, and as much as i want to believe it only takes 25 minutes to get there, it always takes at least 35-40. (which you would think by driving it three times a week, i would get the hint and start allotting for that commute. i somehow can't make that happen, but punctuality is another story)....
part of my commute that's much, much quicker (a whole five minutes means a lot when you're starting an appointment on the dot, and you aren't there quite yet) is the toll road highway. i always, always, ALWAYS debate whether to travel this way: while it saves me five minutes, and $2.70 doesn't seem like that much (plus it's a tax write off!), it adds up every month. on days when i leave on time, i will force myself to take the extra five minutes and travel through the 'city' of parker. but on days when time is short (most days that end in y), well... E470 is my only hope.
and so, i am now embracing this fact, and have finally broken down and gotten the 'transponder' that allows me to breeze through the tollway and have my tolls automatically deducted, and saves me a percentage of tolls. i am sure in the long run this is a good decision. it was easy to get, and i won't have to pay bills now, every month, just make sure to watch for those automatic deductions everytime my toll account dips below $10. and now, i have this horrible, big white block of plastic velcroed to my windshield, and i am now an official commuter. welcome to your world, kaci j.
