(...ears, brain, chest- cause it's LOUD)
he and i played aunt and uncle for a day last weekend, and took his nephew out to monster jam at the pepsi center. now, i'll be honest here. when he first mentioned monster jam and invited me to come with him and his nephew, i thought: no. nothing else, just no. i instead said, don't you want just uncle time? and he said he'd like me to come. and then i said, ok. it's got to be fun, right? and if anything, i could practice my aunt skills for when i become a professional aunt in june.
i.
was.
right.
it was fun. not just fun, but like, SUPER fun.
at the starting line... |
the noise level was OFF the CHARTS, and i could feel my chest and my brain rattle around when the angry trucks revved their engines. i felt my heart skip a beat when the trucks caught air during the 'freestyle', and gasped when they landed without crashing into a million pieces.
the actual jump! |
nephew-to-be and i sat on the edges of our seats, rooting for a different truck for each race (which, by the way, are less than five seconds long each). he got excited, i got excited, and when the jumbo-tron searched the crowd for the loudest fan, i picked him up and waved my arms around with him. we threw popcorn at each other and fiance, and we shared a diet soda.
this is a dinosaur robot eating a taurus. and he literally chomped it and tore it into pieces. pretty rad. |
later, he and i took nephew and the dogs for a walk in wash park, stopped at target for a birthday present, and then completed the evening with his niece's three-year old birthday party.
i am now officially a fan of the monster jam (who knew!?) and feel ready to be a cool aunt. it was a good weekend!
official shot out to dan dp for the pity party passes and mj tix. you rock!
