(...in honor of cinco de mayo)
apparently, the cinco de mayo celebration is based on the mexican defeat of a french army in puebla, mexico. while this holiday means nothing to me, i did choose to celebrate it... in a completely opposite way: leisurely dining on the sunny patio of a delicious french restaurant, jaja's. i enjoyed a light, sparkling french lemonade called 'rieme' and the water we drank came out of the most quaint, ingenious, orange fish-shaped jug called a gurglepot (which i am dying to get now, btw; it would look BEAUTIFUL in my shabby chic dining room). our cute, stout waitress with a stylish bob haircut made the whole experience that much better. the best part was the grilled, open sandwich i ordered, called 'le provencal' (grilled lemon chicken, tomatoes, carmelized onions, sundried tomato aioli, and broiled mozzarella).
yum.
as a frequenter and l.o.v.e.r. of mexican food of all kinds and types, i would have to say: i would celebrate cinco de mayo with french food every. single. year. if i could do it at jaja's.
