when you don't know what else to do...

(...organize with sticky notes)

this girl at work is no longer with us, and among other things, she used to manage this program called gift matching. when she decided to no longer be with us, i was asked to take over this program interim, since i used to manage this program about 4 years ago. of course i thought it would be a piece of cake, right? even glancing through her stack of left papers and the spreadsheets she had set up, i thought it would be easy peasy.

wrong.

yesterday i tackled her three inch high stack of papers, and was amazed at what i found. one of all, she hadn't even touched these requests since... maybe october or november? two, she kept every single piece of paper that was sent to her. i'm sure she had a reason, but i couldn't figure out why opened, used, and mailed envelopes were stapled to applications. third, she had papers and applications with notes all over them, that even after a few attempts, made no sense.

so, in order to start tackling this project, i had to organize. now, if you recall, i love lists. a relative of lists are tabs and organizing sticky notes used as such; i love these almost as much as lists! so of course, i grabbed my favorite sticky pad and organized the huge pile into smaller, more sensical piles, each of which got a label. i put them in order of importance, and now i am ready to tackle my new project.

even the WTF pile. .....
