party favors

(...in which i share my love for the fancy)

mom's 50th birthday was last month, and we threw her a big fat suprise party. it was awesome. my sister came into town, my uncle came into town, friends from her utah high school years came into town... it was great, and a total surprise. i wish i wasn't in the bathroom when she came up the stairs to the actual 'surprise!' part.

on the day of, my sister and i ran around like crazy people trying to get last minute party things. one last minute thing we decided on was party favors (lil treat bags with candy) and having a toast in honor of mom. so we needed cups, or glasses, for said toast. from what i remember, we didn't have a lot of time, so we couldn't spend the time we wanted to find the cheap, plastic champagne flutes. plus, those are so cheesy and so unenvironmentally friendly, that we looked for another option.

we walked up the one block from my house to the dollar store to see if they had anything. especially something we could possibly use as a keepsake. we looked around, but not being as familiar with the family dollar as some other people, we were lost.

sister 2, bless her, went right up to the store manager and asked, in all seriousness, 'do you have stemware?'

at the family dollar.

even more surprisngly, they did. we cleaned them out- 6 cartons of 4-pack glass steamware for the party.

we took them home, put a lei in each one and wrote 'kim's 50th birthday' on them, and voila! commerative stemware party favors for each guest.

and now, i have four of them that people didn't take home. the commerative writing has since washed off, but i still feel really fancy and happy when i drink my plain water out of my commerative stemware.

happy 50th year, mama. love you!
