ode to the day of love

(...in which i tell you of my true love for valentine's day)

i truly love valentine's day. it's one day of the year where we are allowed to just love on people without looking silly, and give them cards for NO reason, and eat lots of candy and think about hearts and dates and love and the stuff that, really, makes the world go 'round.

(you may argue that candy doesn't make the world go 'round, but apparently you don't live in my world).
this year i didn't have a ton of time- or to be more specific, energy, to make valentines. instead, i did a crafty night with alyson to make heart mobiles, then settled in a few days before the big V-day to make more to hang from my dining room light fixture. i think they turned out pretttttyyyyy cute, if you ask me.
i did make a few cards, three to be exact: one roommies bfri took to give to roomie, one i gave to my best friend l, who has been a super supportive pillar of love in the past few weeks especially, and one to a friend that was hurting, particularly in her love life. three was just enough to get the v-day juices flowing, but not too many to overwhelm me.

then, the sunday night before, l and i went to 'fall in love with a cause' at the Eat, Play, Love Event, hosted by Jocelyn Cockrum, to support NAMLO, a cause near and dear to her heart. the event was hosted at the denver puppet theatre, and had a silent auction (of which i donated a sweetthingscake, yay!), a live auction, dessert and wine bars, and interactive craft sessions: a make your own jewlery session and a paint your own canvas session. l and i chose to paint!

thanks to l's intense creativity, and smartphone, she downloaded a 'dia de los muertos' skull picture, and painted it, almost exactly, onto her canvas(above). it was so beautiful, and i was so out of inspiration, that i just had to copy. mine was less exact and less awesome, but still fun, just the same.
a friend of mine and jocy's, carrie, painted these beautiful mountains with the use of a paper stencil that she herself created. all in all, it was an awesome, fun, and creative night that raised a lot of well-appreciated money for an amazing cause. what a great way to start off the valentine's mentality!! see, loving on others doesn't have to be all hallmarky and cheesy! we can do valentine's our own ways...
