(it may not look like fun, but let me tell you why it is)
the first monday of every month, we have an all day staff meeting. and by all day staff meeting, i mean all.day. from nine to noon, we meet as a large department, and then from noon thirty to three or so, we meet as smaller teams.
this, to most people, sounds like hell.
i promise it's not. let me count the reasons why...
1) i work with 14 actors. every.single.person. on my team is hilarious, and has no filter. for instance, today we ended our team meeting in fits- literal FITS- of giggles, as everything our supervisor said, dh added 'that's what she said' aftewards. and the supervisor (and all of us) laughed. i'm telling you: no. filters.
2) we celebrate birthdays every month, and we always celebrate with cake. cake on a monday is awesome. ALWAYS. and there are usually fun snacks on the tables for the beginning of the meeting too, to tide us over til cake. (today was pretzels and cheetos puffcorn. um, delicious and devilish snack i could eat for, ev, er). and there is only ONE month without a birthday, and we just pretrend it's someones and still eat cake.
3) we do awesome, FUN work. it's relevant and it's important, and it's fun. we bring THEATRE to YOUTH. like, one guy on our team, his whole job is to do youth engagement programs, and his big project right now is a facebook page. when he's not teaching kids to make videos. even my job, the admin who schedules and markets the theatre, is fun.
4) we do fun, impactful things on a large scale. we matter. not to toot our horn, but it's true. today we went over the number of people that saw or were reached by our programs in 2010. if we take the huge number (142,000ish) and divide it by our team, it means that we each averaged impacting 9000 people. albeit a generalization, that's pretty awesome to think about.
so, i think that once a month i can sit through some pie charts, powerpoints and agenda topics to get cake and feel special. oh, and get paid to do that all.
