yesteday was mlk day, officially. our office is not off, but instead 'on'. our theme this day, and every year on this day is: 'mlk day: make it a day on, not off!' and we are all encouraged to volunteer for a part or full day instead of work. we're even paid, like a normal day, to do it.
how freakin' awesome is that?
it's rare that i find myself feeling proud of, or even thinking of kaiser as a place that i work, but it's days like this that make me proud to be a kaiser employee. we are encouraged to 'thrive', which for me, looks like a genuine word of pride or encouragement every time i say i'm going to the gym or taking a mental health day; thriving also looks like living what we preach: getting involved in the lives and communities of our city to make it a better place to live, whether they are kp members or not.
so here's to you, papa k, and all that you do for us, and especially all that you encourage us to do for others!
and a quick shot out to enchelleada and my sis, for getting me into this awesome organization almost 5 years ago! huzzah :)
The placement of the "superstar" picture under the "How freakin' awesome is that?" is priceless.
ReplyDeletefirst of all, you make volunteer work look GOOD! i do wish you were wearing an over-sized traffic cone orange vest though ;)
ReplyDeletesecond of all, what a fun project and a beautiful day to be outside giving back! papa k would be SO proud of you.
