creepy or thoughtful?

i don't eat candy bars, hardly ever. if i do, it's always those mini little ones that make me feel much less guilty, and are small enough that i can have a few different ones and feel like i didn't eat my weight in chocolatey nougat. when i do chose the fun snack size ones, i usually go with twix or milky ways. sometimes snickers.

snickers has a successful marketing campaign. i know this because when i see the snickers logo with the branded blue italic letters within a white and red border, i just say to myself: hungry? why wait? that, my friends, is not my own thought, but the clever, insidious marketing ploy of willy-wonka like candy makers across the country. good work, guys, good work.

now, snickers has a language all of it's own- have you seen it? at first glance, billboards and candy wrappers with the familiar blue italic letters look like the word snickers- but at second glance, the letters spell out something completely different: nonsensical words like 'snackalicious' and 'hungerectomy' and things like that. after searching the internet, apparently this language is called 'snacklish'.  i find this to be an even cooler marketing ploy, as i love words, i love chocolate, and i love making up my own words while i eat chocolate. or something.

that said, someone must know i love this marketing campaign because when i came into work on monday, there was a very strategically, if not creepily, placed item on my keyboard: a snickers candy wrapper. devoid of the actual snickers bar, the wrapper sat very pointedly placed between the 'g' and 'l' keys, upside down so i could see the snickers 'word of the day'. it read: 'substantialiscious'. the inside of the wrapper had the definition inside.... apparently, substantialiscious means 'the weight of something when you weigh it with your tongue'.

how is that NOT a creepy thing to leave anonymously on someone's desk?

  1. A: That is totally creepy! Do you know who left it there?!

B: You will not be surprised to know I also love mini sized Milky Way and Twix. Sometimes I even go for the BIG Twix and eat them both!
