doggy intuition

you know how they say that dogs have intuition, and can kind of 'understand' what's going on for their owners? i would like to agree with that statement, and offer my left shoe as evidence...

over two months ago, i left my closet door open (actually, i just didn't close it all the way, and it opens by itself if it's not latched). myla and jola were home, and myla took full advantage of the open door. i came home to three different chewed up shoes, a few missing books and papers, and i'm sure other elements of destruction that i've since blocked from my mind. amazingly (and so annoyingly) enough, myla chewed three different shoes of three different pairs, meaning that i had three pairs of shoes (each with one good shoe and one chewed shoe) to throw away. however, being the optimist that i am, i kept one of those pairs, thinking that maybe the desctruction was not that bad...

almost two months ago i had my foot surgery, on my right foot. i've been wearing the heck out of all my left footed flats, and have even got away with wearing a moccasin slipper a few times out in public. however, this last wednesday i got brave and borrowed my roommate's cute short-heeled left cowboy boot, to accompany my casted leg and crutches. the crutching in heels worked out great! i was so happy to be wearing something other than just ballet flats...

so happy, in fact, that today as i was browsing through my pile of left shoes, i happened upon a left wedge heel that matched my outfit perfectly. this would be WONDERFUL to wear today! do i dare?! crutch to work in heels?? i looked at it's mate, and realized that the right wedge was one of the previously mentioned chew toys; although i want to believe that no one would notice, that would be impossible unless they were blind. then i realized that today was the perfect last chance to wear these shoes (well, just this left shoe) before i need a working set of two shoes and had to throw this pair away.  i made up my mind: i was going to crutch to work in heels. i couldn't wait. and so far, it's worked out fine.(note, however, that i have avoided all stairs today. in flats, i use the stairs to travel, thinking elevators are for wimps. today though, i know enough to be 'wimpy' and not crutch in heels down the stairs...).

all of this to say: myla, thank you for using your doggie intuition to only chew up my right shoes, and leaving me a few more wears in my cute left shoes. i appreciate it, and feel like you were with me today as i got dressed... i can't wait to see you again! and i've been practicing closing my closet door all the way....
