this one time...

(... at the nature and history museum...)

this weekend, i went and saw the 'real pirate' exhibit at the nature and science museum. i wasn't holding my breath, since a few friends told me it was not great, and a few said it was awesome. i like pirate, don't get me wrong, but they can be so horribly overdone and hokey that i just didn't want to get my hopes and then dashed by a glorified jack sparrow.

see? i love pirates.

great news: the exhibit was awesome! it was very historical, and dramatic, and although some parts were a little over the top (like the fake boat with the disneyland-ride feel, the overhead fighting pirate music, nd the real-life colonial merchant sailor with a fake accent), the general exhibit was pretty much awesome. i loved the history, and the story they told with the facts they had found. it was so daunting to see genuine pirate booty and touch (shh, don't tell 'em we touched it) real, iron cannons from a real pirate ship. the artifacts were aplenty, and the historical stories were told in such a way that i was completely captivated to find out what happend to sam bellamy and lil' john king, the 8 year old boy who joined sam's ship. i learned new, fun things (pirates only slept in hammocks if there was enough for every one, otherwise they slept on the floor; if they had a limp amputated they were paid 800 silver pieces; most were very morally conscious men, opposed to slavery and other controversies of the day).

to top it off, we went to the gift store afterwards and parused through the nifty gifties, and guess what we found, completely pirate-unrelated? a SPLAT egg ball. so awesome! it looks like a regular egg, but when you throw it on the ground, it flattens out and the liquid turns white, and it looks like a real egg. hilarious, right? until my friend threw his, with excessive force (unadvised on the package!) against a glass door and it burst. then it wasn't as funny.

actually, yes it was. pirates and eggs.
