modern day mombi

(mombi: do you remember her? from 'return to oz'?)

mombi is the evil villian-y witch in the sequal to 'wizard of oz', called 'return to oz'. she's a bonafide creep, for sure, as her head is removable and she has whole closets of talking heads that she can choose from and wear. as a little kid watching this movie, i remember thinking how freakish that was. now, as an adult, i get the willies just thinking of little kids watching a movie where the witch wears different heads and walks around without a head sometimes*. ew.
*sidenote: this just further adds to my decision that if i have kids, they will live in a dark, un-socialized hole.

i was at target the other night, browsing the barbie aisle (picking out toys for child play therapy is so fun!) and came across the new and... creepy... barbie trend: removal and interchangeable barbie heads. not just one barbie in a box, with maybe an extra head, but there are now literal rows of barbie heads. i suppose on one hand, this is quite economical for moms: you buy one barbie doll, and a ton of cheaper heads, and you've exponentially increased your child's toy variety. on the other hand, you're buying heads.

to me, it's no contest.

  2. As a child, we often think of toys as things that we can play with that have colourful designs, can sometimes produce nice sounds, and are really fun to use and look at. cool things to buy
