birthdays!

(...where we celebrate two birthdays for the price of one)

today is march 2, which is a very special day, to at least two people in my life: one old, and one new (new and old in the sense of their time in my life, not in ages...)

one i've known for a few years, miss gk, and she is the light of my kp life: she is firstly my boss, and always my friend. i've house- and dog-sat for her and crazy sophie the schnoodle, and i've been taken under the wing of her doting husband, who continually is scheming to find ways i can join their family (which i am not opposed to!). gk is a fabulous woman that inspires me and makes me laugh; plus she's a great listener, a fantastic boss, and she has a fun car that reminds me of cruella deville, which she kindly drove me around in last year when i had foot surgery. and today in a meeting she said, 'i fear i've just stirred a tempest in a teapot'. i don't know what that means, but if gk says it, it's probably true. hats off to you, miss gk!

in honor of the birthday girl, the harpers and i went in on a little effen gift... flavored effen vodka, to be precise (her favorite to ask for at the tavern). i dressed up the gift box (which came with an effen martini shaker) with a little card, mini clothes pin, and floating paper heart. pretty cute, if you ask me. i also treated her to her favorite starbucks treat, and brought her a mini heart shaped cheesecake this morning before our staff meeting!

the other march 2 birthday star is the non-dud i've been seeing. in fact, he's so non-dud that he invited me out with him and his brother,sister and friends to his birthday dinner and outing this evening, and i said yes... eeeee! to celebrate i made him (my first) cheesecake... white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, to be precise. i was very excited to try a new baked good, and one i knew he would like (for some reason that crazy boy likes white chocolate the best {although it's not even really chocolate} and mentioned at the cheesecake factory he liked the w.c.r. cheesecake the best). a perfect solution to the 'it's your birthday and we've been dating like, not long at all, and i want to get you something but not something too much, and what do i do without looking crazy?' thought. so, i did what i do well: i baked.

 

*bonus: the recipe was oversized, my pan was undersized, so i got to make lil mini extras (i love mini); one of which miss gk got to enjoy this morning as a birthday treat as well!!
