(...after all)
i went to meet my ol' africa pals the other night at a restaurant i'd never been to before, in the highlands, called 'La Loma'. i was excited to try a new mexican joint, as i'm a sucker for chips and salsa, and love me some chicken enchelladas and crispy chili rellenos. yum. i could eat mexican food everyday, i think.
i walk in, and look around and you know the first thing i see? no, it's not the group of seven or eight loud, silly ladies i was looking forward to meeting, but.... lo and behold: the harpers. my favorite family ever!*
*in case you are wondering, mr. harper is a coworker of mine, and my close neighbor. mrs. harper is his adorable and awesome wife, who shares running stories with me. harper kid 1 and harper kid 2 are the boys i babysit, my favorite boys in the whole world. all four harpers define the word awesome.
so i say hi, and give my condolscences... they'd just lost a close family member, and had come from the viewing and were preparing for the funeral the next day. although the mood was somewhat somber, i couldn't help but love the idea of being in the same, random restaurant on a hill with so MANY of my favorite people: the harpers and each and every one of my african travel companions.
it's a small world, indeed, and i feel blessed to know that by experience :)
