new project.

i have always really liked doing art projects. for a few years, i even considered that i was an actual artist... i took an extended independent research art class, making pieces every few weeks and doing serious art research. i was in heaven, really. i thought about doing art for a college major, but realized that in reality, my art is mediocre and wouldn't win me any prizes (aka make me a living). i did keep a notebook with me during college, and pasted in all sorts of fun things that caught my eye, quotes that spoke to me, and drew little sketches when i was on the bus. in reality, i think i traded in an art major for something equally as whimsical (a communication degree), and now do lots of crafty art projects for fun, while communicating for a career. it's actually quite satisfying, really. besides fun crafty projects like wreaths and cards, i think cake decorating is another outlet for my artsy side. however, cake orders are becoming serious and somewhat professional, which makes me feel more pressured than creative.

The Sketchbook Project: 2011

that said, i'm feeling in need of a little inspiration... so i visited my friend, whimsylou, and found THIS great art project. i signed up for me, and both of my sisters. Baby Sister is an amazing artist, and has been desiring some inspiration lately. i couldn't help but think this project was created specifically for HER, and thought of all the amazing, awe-inspiring art she could create! and then i thought about it, and realized Middle Sister is amazingly artistic too, and has so much to share, and a sketchbook from her would equally amaze me. so i signed them both up to receive a sketchbook, without telling them. muwahahaha, Big Sister strikes again!

to sign up for a sketchbook, you have to choose a theme (i'm guessing to give it guidance, enhance creativty, something like that). i decided to choose life themes for the three books... for myself, i chose the theme 'things that change other things'; for Middle Sister i chose the theme 'capture the flag', and for Baby Sis i chose 'what lies underneath'. i cannot wait to start creating fun things in a sketchbook all my own- that will someday live in brooklyn!

i hope they will share some of their entries as they create! i am sure i will... stay tuned!

see below for more info... and to participate! there's still time!

  1. hi, communication major here too! i have been thinking lately i should have taken some art classes in college, considering how much i enjoy crafting. oh well, like you said communications is probably more profitable for the real world. at least we can be creative through other outlets.

what a fun project. please do share your, and the sistahs, creations!
