Good morning from Nairobi! I've been a little bit of a slacker on the blogging but am hoping to catch you all up on the events later this evening. It's ten to eight am here, which means i think it's the middle of the night where all of you are! so...
friday night we went out into town to a nice restaurant called java house and had real dinner- yay! we've been eating rice beans and cabbage things a LOT here, so it was nice to have real french fries! dinner was a blast, we laughed and laughed and laughed. our team is really really coming together, which is a fun experience to watch.
saturday am we got up and had our regular tea service at the Center, then walked with our ladders and fiberglass panels through village area 1 into village area 2 and did 'bring the light' program, where we go into homes that are completely dark (and by homes i mean rooms) and put in little sky lights to help bring light into the room. this was the MOST emotional, touching and amazing experience i've ever had. i cannot wait to share more. in total we went to four homes in the slums.
after bring the light was lunch, then SHOPPING! shopping here is amazing, we went to an open air market called the maasai market in downtown nairobi... it's a HUGE swap meet type thing where we bargain, bargain, bargain to get little african trinkets. let me tell you, sisters, you thought i was a good bargainer in new york? i rocked the socks off of nairobi bargaining. :)
sunday am was church in the country where the boarding school is. i would say this was the most beautiful thing i've ever seen, and i will say that you have NEVER EVER seen church until you've seen kenyan church. more videos and thoughts on that later. then classroom visiting, then free time which ended up in more shopping at another market and dinner at another java house... i've NEVER been more excited for a salad!
and now, it's time to VBS again in another village.... i'm late to the buss!
